Poros, the birthplace of romantic tragedy
According to the ancient geographer Pausanias, in Greek Mythology Poros was the personification of abundance and wealth. He was the son of Metis, the personification of wisdom, and
Zeus, the king of the gods.
The island of Poros is today a small island in the heart of the Saronic Gulf, near the islands of Aegina and Agistri. Since ancient times it consists of two islands, Sfairia and Kalavria (=good aura).
Kalavria is an island near the coast of Troezen in the Peloponnese of mainland Greece, originally dedicated to the god
Apollo, who gave it to the god
Poseidon in exchange for Delphi.
Kalavria is much larger than Sfairia, covered with abundant water, while Sfairia, which is actually a rock of volcanic origin, is much later than Kalavria and a result of the many geological changes that took place in the area.
