Heracles and Athena (a fable by Aesop)

One day, Heracles was taking a walk along a narrow road when he saw an object on the ground that looked like an apple. He tried to crush it but it only doubled in volume. Seeing this, Heracles stamped on it even more violently and struck it with his club. Suddenly, the object swelled so much that it blocked the path. Filled with wonder, the hero threw his club and stood there speechlessly...

athena In the meantime, goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom, appeared to him and said: "Stop, brother! This object is the spirit of contention and dispute... if left alone, it remains as it was before- but once you fight it, see how it swells!"

This fable shows us that fighting and dispute can cause great damage.
