Poseidon defeats the Giant Polyvotis during the Giantomachy. The god cut a part of the Greek island of Kos and hurled it against the Giant. This way, the volcanic island of Nisyros was created.

Neptune (Poseidon), the god of the Seas is depicted on the right ,representing Water. At left, Cybele, the mother of the gods, is holding the horn of plenty in her hand, representing the earth. Earth and Water are blessed by the goddess Victory who descends from Mount Olympus.
