Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Greece

Cicadas, the protected animal of the Muses

The cicadas were the admirers of the Muses and their loyal servant

According to Plato, the cicadas used to be humans long before the Muses existed. But once the Muses came to the world, and along with them the singing, the poetry ,the music ...the art altogether, those humans became so allured that the only thing they wanted was singing and dancing all day long!

With time, they forgot to eat and drink and peacefully passed away without suffering.

From those human beings originate the cicadas, the protected animals of the Muses, which love to sing from birth to death, forgetting about hunger, thirst and fatigue in their lives. After their sort journey in life, the cicadas would go to the Muses and report the names of all faithful admirers who honored their art.
