The Isthmian games were athletic games held every second spring at the sacred forest of the Isthmus of Corinth. The Isthmian games started in 582 BC to celebrate Poseidon, the god of the Sea and lasted three days. They included gymnastics, running, wrestling, boxing, combat sports and pentathlon.

The winners were given a wreath of pine.
